I've spent much of the past year browsing and bidding on Morgan dollars, I simply love the design. I have also bought 1947 and 1948 Mexico 5 Pesos which is a design I also love, and a fairly easy and affordable coin to buy in MS. I buy raw, and if good enough I send them to NGC to be graded and slabbed which is exciting. I'm looking to find another crown sized coin that I really like. The Japanese One Yen is also beautiful but they can be expensive in high grades. If you'd like to show off your collections and what you really like please feel free! My rough criteria is 0.800 silver minimum, and about 1800 to 1950 ( any earlier it gets a bit out of my price range on most coins, and any later it doesn't feel historical enough for me.) So, to summarise: What crown sized coins do you like?

Reading that post made me think of online dating sites ... isn't there one called Silver Singles?

Spanish colonial 8 Reales. History, crazy varieties, counterfeits, intrigue, shipwreck treasure, multiple mints producing them and an abundance of information available. Many are very affordable.

Canadian Silver Dollars began in 1935. There are a few expensive ones but a type set could be very do-able.

MTTs are neat, but the types from 1800-1950 can be pricey and/or hard to identify. IIRC all the city view thalers are $$$.
I do agree that it might be worth looking into thalers, but offhand I can't think of any multi-year series that aren't also very expensive. Have you considered checking out some Latin Monetary Union crowns? There's a lot of types in there and some of them are pretty neat.

5 francs pieces from Belgium and France are pretty affordable and crown-sized.
have you looked into pesos from the Philippines? Later dates are slightly smaller than crown size, but nonetheless beautiful and affordable.

Agree with France and Belgium 5 Francs.
Ethiopia Talari's (silver) which were done in the 1950's, or Birr's but at higher grades, might be out of your price range.
British Crowns, 1887-1892, most dates are fairly common in higher grades, might fit your price range. From 1818-1820, might not fit your price range.
Personal favorite for me are Dutch Ducaton or "Silver Riders" but at higher grades (even though I believe they're undervalued) will likely be out of your price range.

Thanks for all your suggestions. I did get into 8 Reales a few years ago, but found them to be too expensive to collect in higher grades. I even bought Robert Gurney's book after seeing it posted a few times on here. I like cap and rays, and would like to get a really nice one. Here's a beautiful example: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/8-Reales...202817019111 I had a Peruvian 1791 8 Reales, counterstamped, years ago, and ended up selling it for $500 to a buyer in Peru. I only paid $200 so I parted ways. I wish I still had it, I would have got it graded and slabbed. @TNG I have two Whitman albums for Canadian Dollars from 1935 to 1967 I believe, I particularly like the 1958 Death Dollar. As it will be nigh on impossible for me to complete the full sets I'm thinking of selling what I have already and investing in some really nice grades or a type set like you say. @january1may I've never seen those city view Thalers before, I've looked at them now and they are absolutely stunning, although very expensive. I quite like the latin monetary union coins, 5 pesetas, 5 lire etc. They're all nice so I may look for some of those in high grades, thanks for that. Thanks for all the suggestions.

I sure enjoy the Imperial German 5 Marks, which strike me as undervalued.
The Panamanian Balboas are also beautiful coins, which I have seen at low premiums over spot.
Old Peruvian Sols are 90% and reasonable.
More recently, the French 10 and 50 Francs are bullion.

This topic would not be complete without an obligatory Eisenhower dollar recommendation.

How about a Dutch rijder? Judging from corrosion this one appears to be from a shipwreck. rondomons.nl is a good place for window shopping.
