Newbie here. Is this a 1969 penny double die? I am only 2 days into coin collecting and very confused about what a double die is. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Well crop your images to remove unwanted extended areas and then you can enlarge the image. Also you have too many light sources. With one light source, you get light and shadows. With three light sources, you get light and light and light. It removes shadows when you use too many lights. That is what shows a doubled die. Light and shadows.

Coin photography isn't easy. Keep trying, Galen54. As coop has pointed out, you need a defused lighting source (like white paper in front of your light, or regular daylight). Keep practicing, you'll get it! Most of us here use our cameras in our cell phones, so don't think you need fancy photo equipment. Ask questions if you need specific help! to the CCF!

One more question since you guys have been so helpful: as I am nearing 60, my eyesight isn't as great as it was. Can anyone recommend a good coin magnifier?

There are hand held ones, but I prefer a scope: The light I use on the scope is a DC-14 watt bulb. The size of a Flashlight bulb. It used to be a 6V, but changed it to 12V as I needed more power when I got my new two ocular scope.
