Hi Guys,

I got some coins from the United States Mint, got some Kennedy half dollars.

I ran across this, it seems like it is a strike through error or perhaps some type of peel?

I need an expert opinion. I know it can't be PMD because I picked these straight from the bag.

What do you think?

Yes, it looks like a small grease strike-through.

Looks like it was plated. If so the reeds will not show the copper.

@coop — shouldn't be plated since it presumably came straight from a U.S. Mint bag. Maybe just odd lighting?

This still yet a clad coin. It is possible that the clad to has a peel. Now, the clad act for the coins like plating. So a plating default or a clad surface default of a clad could be considered variety? I do not thing so. Other thing it is could not be considered a mint default because could not be prove if was happened before or after striking. The clad to be clear with all is only 20 to 25 microns thick. That it's.

So for modern coins if you do not have variety (almost 0 %) what value you has for coin? You to answer.

And you assume nothing could happen from the mint to your hands? Once it leaves the mint, it's post mint.

I've seen spots on modern nickels and quarters that look exactly the same. I'm 98% sure it's a strike-through, albeit minor.
