Wow. I can't believe I own one now. Won it in tonite's Heritage auction. I have wanted one ever since I heard of them YEARS ago. 1965 is my birth year. Now, eventually on to the dime. Edited by DoubleEagle20 04/15/2021 11:34 pm

That's a "Holy COW!" coin! I bid on a couple of coins in that auction, but didn't win the bids. I'm glad you were a better bidder than I was.
ANA ID: 3203813 - CONECA ID: N-5637 Clean a coin that may be worth collecting? Please DON'T! When in doubt, leave it dirty!!

Yeah, Yokozuna. Price were high. Luckily the quarter stayed within my purchase bandwidth.

Just so I understand, this coin is a rarity because normally a 1965 quarter would have been struck on a clad planchet?

A 1964 quarter would have been 90 pct silver planchets, Ed. Later in 1965, the mints started coining cupronickel clad 1965 quarters. So they were coining 1964 dated silver quarters and cupronickel clad 1965's simultaneously. A few of the 1964 silver planchets ended up going through the 1965 cupronickel clad presses...and a mint error was born. A silver 1965 Washington quarter.

There are also 1965 silver Roosevelt dimes, Celtic. Keep searching, mr what is it. You never know what u may find. I would advise search junk silver lots. More than likely any 1965 silvers would have been hoarded like the 1964's. Near impossible to find one in circulating coin now.
