I found this in some pennies I've had for some time. Can never decide if it is Machine Doubling or a true DDO. Any help on this topic would help

Thanks

First welcome to CCF. Second, that shelf-like doubling is MD, but this is one of the best examples I've seen in quite some time. I might save it in a 2x2 just to have as an exemplar.

A nice case of Machine Doubling.
They are not usually that pronounced.

Very nice example of MD. Would be interesting to see pics of the full obverse and reverse. Wheat cents--like the '57 D--often have die cracks, die chips, and other interesting issues.

It was a very common MD example. Something must have really been wrong with that machine.
