This will be my Christmas addition to my 7070 once I crack it out of its coffin. It is an 1875-S Twenty Cent Piece certified by Anacs.

Any opinions on grade would be greatly appreciated. I will upload a pic of the holder in a few days.

Thanks,

JimR

This might go VF30 in today's holders.

I'll split the difference and say VF-25. CENTS on the reverse is pretty weak, but the rims and denticles are strong. With basically a full LIBERTY I think it's a lock for at least VF-20. Looks nice and original, too; an excellent choice for that album!

Ok the consensus seems to be VF20-VF30.

Here is Anacs grade.

Gotta give us at least 24 hours to weigh in with opinions.

I'd have said VF30. My first thought was that ANACS allowed a nice reverse to affect their opinion of a poor obverse. Then, as usual, I went to look at Heritage results. Based on looking at pictures there, it seems a soft strike was expected from that issue, and your coin is solidly graded. Even AU examples showed softness through LIBERTY.

I must work for ANACS because I looked at it and said EF-40. Nice one.
Rest in Peace

I was going to say VF-30. XF is definitely an overgrade.

I gave this coin a VF30 as well. PCGS would not have given this coin an XF40.
Definite overgrade. Nice coin though!

What do you think PCGS gave this one?

If you said 40, you are a winner. And I like Jim's coin a lot better. The obverse carries the grade for me. It's a 40.
