It is a Proof, I presume? Beautiful Walker. The Mods will probably move this to the grading forum, where it will get more attention.

Hi Jewellge, and welcome! This looks like a business-strike coin (not a proof) and certainly appears mint state. I see no sign of wear, luster is strong, and there are only a few tiny marks on Liberty's gown and in the right obverse field. I think this one is good for MS-65. Nice!

Jaobler,
I was thinking MS-65 with the reverse garding higher. I think there are just too much nics on Liberty's dress to hit MS66 and higher. Who knows though in this day and time.
Very nice Walker.

Wow!, This is one of the best Walkers that I've seen. I see what looks like some small bag marks on the obverse. Because of the I'll say MS-68. If the marks just from the picture than the coin looks at least PR-62.

Question: What is the stuff which looks like pitting at the top of the right-hand ray?
The fields look great, and the reverse is superb. I've seen this coin's equal in MS66 slabs.

I checked the coin about the pitting above the right ray and there is nothing on the coin, photographic flaw

Quote: I checked the coin about the pitting above the right ray and there is nothing on the coin, photographic flaw Then I stand by my opinion. Strictly graded, it's a 65; in the TPG market, it's a 66. Either way, the fields are fabulous and the dings well hidden. This one is a keeper.

I would say MS65. Although the fields are nice and clean generally, too many pit marks around Liberty's skirt lines. Also seems to be a fair ding at 3 o'clock on the reverse, which is otherwise rather clean. Walkers tend to get graded more on their obverses, at least by the TPG's, and the number of smaller marks on the obverse would likely keep this out of MS66. If you are a novice at Walkers, always look for a split hand and full head on the obverse, both of which are important strike characteristics that are points of emphasis for Walker collectors. One last thing about buying raw Walkers on the internet -- note that the seller took a photo to enhance the shininess. This is a common occurrence for Walkers, particularly later ones, because they can be so blast white. When you get the coin in hand, take a close look at it for flaws that the photograph cleverly hid. For $26, it seems you did all right.

Thank you all for your comments. First off those are pictures I took, so there was no attempt to hide anything, just to give a true representation of the coin, I'm still working on getting lighting correct. I am very concerned about buying on ebay and won't chase anything that is not properly represented by photographs, although I will take a chance on some at above bullion, factoring in ship costs, but not for more than dollar or two, depending on how much of a gamble I think it is. I have started to use some of the vendors that are recommended on this site, using the logic that people here are trying to make a buck but not steal a buck and that the members here will provide better policing of the sellers because this site is here for people to discuss, learn and sell, swap coins, where ebay is trying to make a buck for the stockholders. And to make a buck for them they need to have sellers generate revenue and a smalltime buyer against a power seller might as well bend over and say thank you. I also use the local shops, nothing replaces the tactile sensation of rolling a nice toned coin in the light, seeing the shadows and reflections off of details and feeling the sharpness of the reeds on a nice heavy coin....sorry got carried away Thanks again

Hey, good job on the photography. It looks like a lot of seller photos on E-Bay so you are already well ahead of me. Walkers are beautiful coins and most after 1935 are reasonably priced and attainable, even in Mint State. The earlier ones are a different story...

I like how you think, jewellge. A photography suggestion: Use a neutral, monochromatic background for the pic - black, white or a shade of grey. It makes white balance adjustments a heck of a lot easier - the camera has less work to figure out the automatic setting, or you have less work in postprocessing - if you shoot on a white background, play with color until the background is white. Then the coin will be right.
