Is there any Variety I can expect to be noted and, what grade would this coin get? For the last 10 years at least, It is sitting inside a 2x2 together with a bunch of similar cents. they are keeping each other company while waiting to go "somewhere". Thank you for your input and comments H Edited by 47P7 04/25/2021 10:25 pm

Beautiful coin and one I've not seen. It is not one of the coins that we selected for the 2011 Charlton variety section. Maybe Dan or Jim has one like it. How much of the upper 9 loop underpunch is from any glare from the lighting. I see some of the left side glare in the other digits as well.

I agree with Bill on the coin it was a hard to try and find I think it might grade MS-65. In the future to try and make things easier to identify your 1859 coins maybe you could take separate pictures of leaf 2,7,9 they are key markers to identify 1859's. Beautiful coin

I agree with hound dog bill, Beautiful coin looks like PC59-33 obv 17 with rev. E19. Die defining crack at the tip of leaf 11. Plus doubled top of 5. Ed

47P7 you really should take a good look at Dr. Haxby's site you would be amazed by his work and the site design is top notch. As far as variety goes each one is a variety on their own with some being more collectable then others, mostly ones involving the date. This particular one would be considered run of the mill as far as variety is concerned but the condition alone makes it valuable. Again great looking coin and I'd grade MS64-65 looks like it may be on the fence between red or red brown. With coin in hand whats your opinion R or RB?
Cheers, Bill

Well, the E-19 shows no doubling of the upper loop of the 9 on the Haxby site.. There is the minor offset doubling on the 5, which is fairly common on a number of them. It also has a minor repunch at the bottom of the 1 and E-19 does not have a R/P'd "1". Not all of the repunched 9's have names .... you'd run out of adjectives.

I think your correct on all your points Bill, but this coin is a very high mint state it has all the other Reverse markers to be a E19 Reverse.
Like you mention there are differences in the 1859, but when you blow up the first group of picture's up 500 times I don't see any doubling on the 9 and the 1 is very minimal. I think the picture of the date is blown up mega times

I agree with 17+E19. As nybird said: Quote: Die defining crack at the tip of leaf 11. It is nice to see you posting again Ed. Great photos of that die pair Viper!

Thanks Phil and others. I have read every post daily for the past 5 years. With moving west and various health issues I have needed to keep coins at arms length.... I did manage sell all my Mercury dimes and am working on selling the Indian Head cents, and Lincoln cents. Then I plan on concentrating on Vickies again which I still have thousands of. Should be enough to stay busy with for years. It is so pleasant to use the Haxby site now with your continued improvements. This coin took less than 60 seconds as do most with die cracks. As I have grown older I see coins not so much as owned but entrusted to you for a short time to enjoy. I particularly enjoy finding them in dusty corners of dealers throwaway bins, as most US dealers are not that interested in Canadian coins. Ed
