Did the Die that puts the Mint mark do this?

I don 't see anything that can't be attributed to damage. A die clash would be raised, not incuse and the mint mark is part of the striking die, it is not struck separately. PMD

I don't understand how any penny could take a blow like that and have zero reverse damage unless it was fixed it place, also don't understand how the deep Gouches just stop with no trial.. only way that could have happen is with a machine tooling of some sort..

Agree, post strike damage. Perhaps the majority of the hits/dings were somewhat lateral in origin--not 'straight-down', blunt force driven. Also have Die Deterioration on the obverse as evidenced by the raised Ridge Ring. Others will be along to share their perspectives.

Yes that all looks like damage to me. As to the lack of flattening on the side opposite to the gouges, it could be an oblique hit as @ijn mentions or even something so mundane as the other side was resting on something that had some give to it, like leather.
