Hey! I hope it's okay that I have returned with another coin I was handed as change a few days ago. It certainly made a different *clink* when it was handed to me and (sorry!!) tossed into my change purse. It is now on my desk and I took pics of it. It does not appear to have S or D on the back under the eagle, which is why I'm coming here for help again as it's hard to find on Gooogle. I was hoping to get some info on what grade it can be considered. It's covered in gunk that comes off, but can I gently clean it with something to bring back its shine and be clean? Also, the big question is its possible value. Thanks again, lovely coin freaks! <3

To CCF , It really doesn't matter if you want to clean this coin or not because in it's present state it is just what we call 90% junk silver . Silver value only ,no numismatic value .

Worth just under $5 in silver. Nice circulation find in 2021, though! It's rare to be handed a 90% silver quarter in change.

This coin doesn't have any value beyond the silver. For collectible coins, most cleaning is considered a form of damage since it scratches or chemically alters the metal and patina. A dip in pure acetone is considered the only safe method since it removes organic contaminants like your gunk without affecting the coin. That said, since this is just a melt value coin, you have nothing to lose.

Cool find. Sadly, only worth silver melt. If you're so inclined, give the coin a good soak in acetone. May clean it up some, but no matter how clean it gets, still worth just melt.

Well it is a silver coin, so don't spend it. It is worth much more than face value. But the condition will probably make it more of a silver melt coin, than a collectable piece. It may of had a die clash on the reverse, from the drooling eagle look. Variety Vista has three DDR's for this year http://www.varietyvista.com/09b%20W...s%201948.htmSo you might check for these.
