While looking through 12 rolls of older George VI nickels that was included in a collection I purchased a few months ago, I came across this oddity.
First I thought it was just a dirty coin or
PMD, but upon closer inspection this discolouration is spread evenly on all its surfaces including the rim. Overall the fields have almost no signs of damage and surprisingly has a lot of lustre.
Im curious to know if this would be what US collectors call a "Black Beauty", or just artificial toning as recognizing this particular error (if it would be considered that) is way over my head as I mainly focus on doubled dies.
Opinions welcome!
