My friend also has a 1958 Wheat penny that he was wanting to sell me for $20

Wheat pennies typically carry a premium of about $0.04 in circulated condition for common dates. If your friend is asking for $20 for a 1958, tell him to stick it some place where the sun don't shine.

I see nothing unusual. Nice coin based on pics though. The slight off center is not enough to make it valuable.

@VestigeWolf an off-center strike (even slight) would absolutely add numismatic value. This is not an off-center strike, just an incredibly minor misaligned die. In order for a coin to be struck off center, it needs to be struck without a collar die, which would be very apparent, since the coin would have a larger diameter than a normal cent and would appear kind of smushed and distorted.

Any thoughts on the uneven widths of the arms of the letter Y in LIBERTY?

Not a fake. I think you may need a new friend regarding the value of the '58.
As I see it (at the moment), the coin pictured is worth about 25-50 cents.

I can get 25 cents for it or I could go on Esty and ask $5000 and claim it as a tax write-off. Lol

I don't see anything out of the norm with this coin . I'll value it at about 25¢ . Can I ask why you paid $5 for it ?

Quote: I hope it's worth $5 that's what I paid Yeah, way over priced - next time send a picture and ask "HOW MUCH" - before you buy.
