This one has me confused is it a DDR or MD or ..... Some areas look rounded and others flat. In General the left side of coin looks more like MD to me and the right looks more like DDR. The last O in Monticello and the S in cents appear the most rounded. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance
E

That is Machine Doubling. The real DDR is on the Center of the design on the doors of the buildings:

The single squeeeze dies showed the DDR on this area of the reverse. Even harder to be seen on the DDO on the nose area:

But all the single squeeze dies have the doubled die in the central areas. The cents have a wider affected area. But pretty well all the DDO's are in the same areas. Central part of the design.

CoopHome: Single squeeze dies doubled die are harder to find, but the center of the designs are usually where they all are found.

@Coop there are actually doubled dies on MONTECELLO for these new portrait Jeffersons, but yeah, this isn't one. Brian's varieties lists several.

I'll look into it right now. All the images on that area, are die markers, not die doubling. Just the central areas so far all that is affected with the hub doubling there.

What is the difference between hub doubling and a die marker? A die marker is a die event. As the die ages, some event show up on a die. Coins struck before this marker will not have that mark. Coins after that marker can see the affected devices, get worse or polished off the die. Hub doubling happens on the die, and is present from the first strike till that last, as long as it is not polished off the die. (this happens on sometimes as the dies are adjusted to remove clash lines, feeder finger lines and die damage.
