This coin has marks above the letters U,N,I,T, and E with two lines in between the T and E. These did not look like regular scratches to me. Could someone help me identify what this is and why it happens? Thank you.

@morph, at these high magnifications, you cam see die polishing marks pretty well. Those nearly parallel lines that radiate upward from the tops of the letters to the rim are more likely from die wear.

Yes, you have gone from error searching to molecular coin structure - studying the flow lines of the metal during the moment during the strike.

EDIT - I guess they are right - bigger isn't always better.

There is a photography "how to" section here on CCF, or a section I believe devoted to microscopes, perhaps they can help you figure out your magnification issues.

Spending time at places like error-ref.com looking for what legit errors and varieties look like will benefit you b/c it will show you what to be looking for rather than spending a lot of time trying to find something not collected.
