Please post photos shot head on of both sides plus an extra photo of your area of concern.
Can't really tell anything from that picture. We have to be able to see the details to make any sort of a judgement.

Agree, we need straight-on, larger and sharp photos to determine what may be going on. Thanks.

I believe he's trying to show us a broken post on the mint mark, where the center hole of the D is missing or filled. I'm I right Deadeye?
If so, very common problem/die event...spend it

Looks like Machine Doubling on the coin. Note the devices are reduced on the area you are looking at, but the over all view of all the devices, they are all the same size on the outside edges of all the devices. Very common to see Machine Doubling on the reverse and sometimes on the obverse. On a real doubled die, the devices will show spread the centers, being with widened to taller:

Machine Doubling reduces the normal size of the devices. That is what your are seeing on your coin.

A close-up pic of the mintmark would definitely help, but I agree with @greasy that there might have been a broken post on the mintmark.

I'm referring to how the mint mark seems to be in a dimple on the coin. Is it me just confused about the terminology or what? Please let me know. Thanks a lot.

I think I know what you are saying. The Mint Mark looks like is sunken in? If you look at the reverse of the coin around the e in America does it look raised?

OK...sunken mint mark, would have helped a lot of us if you would have stated that in the beginning...

Only explanation I can think of........
.........maybe that area is the result of heavy die polishing to remove a die clash.
