Hello everyone;
I was going through my dads coin collection and here's a amazing coin I found.
It has some striking color I thought it was some painted on.
Check it out.

I think I would classify it as environmental damage.

Environmental tarnishing/staining/marking. Coin may have been chemically altered by having sent time in soil or in heat of some sort. Post mint damage, no mint error, sorry. Worth silver spot price.

That is pretty cool coloration @real. It is interesting how it seems to have worn off of the high points on George's face and hair.

Cool indeed . Does the coin still belong to your father or is it yours now ? I ask because to find out if it's paint or environment toning , using a Q-tip , put a small dab of
E-Z-Est Silver dip on an inconspicuous spot of the coin . If it takes away the brown and reveal's a nice silver spot then it's just toning , not paint or anything else .

It's toning brought about by an environmental agent (or two). I've seen several (not many) silver US coins like this one over the years--particularly quarters and halves. A fine, speckle-like effect. I'd keep it as is.

When tilted in the light...does it reflect different colors? If so...just some toning that has occurred.
Throw him in some acetone...rinse and pat dry making sure not to rub and put it in a 2x2 after completely dry.
A keeper for your Dad.
Nice 1/4!

Almost looks like paint that is wearing off.

Thank you all for the feedback .
This coin is still my Dads .
And I think I like the idea of IJN1944 just leave it as.I will talk to him about putting a little acetone on a little spot, we will see?
But also it would be nice to find out though.
I held it in the light and you could see some specks looking metallic looking like a rainbow of colors.
