Hi Arussel and welcome to the forum. I do not personally purchase off of ebay but you asked for opinions and I am awake so I figured I would offer mine. I did follow your link to that particular sale and read through quite a bit of bj's feedback profile. It does show he has been ebaying for a couple of years now, had almost 850 sales and only 7 complaints. Some of those complaints sounded like miscommunication between seller and buyer. Also, it seems to me that bj has a limited grasp of the english language that may have caused some confusion between the two of you. I am curious as to why you refused to send back the coins that you are saying are not yours? I believe he is maybe hesitant to send you out more coins for the fear that you may not return the first ones he sent by mistake. Once again, welcome to the forum and I hope you are able to work things out with your purchase. Malissa

Sorry, you should have sent the coins back. It's a common courtesy and you didn't attempt to make any effort to help the seller other than bluntly accusing and harassing him. People do make mistakes and if you like to make a mole out of it, I don't want to be anywhere close dealing with you.

Well, that would be a different story and of course would not be very nice to have happen to you. I can only say that I hope it works out. Sometimes buying off of ebay can be risky. Maybe someone else here can recommend some good tips to help you resolve the issue. I know we have some power sellers on here so hopefully they can help. Malissa

Hi there it was actually me who bought the coins, as far as returning them I'm not. Sorry but it was his mistake, he advertised it as 20 roman coins ? and sent 12. I bought my husband the coins as a Christmas present from disability money, no one else bid so no one else was interested in them, personal I told my husband to keep them as I bought and paid for them. Check the out his other coins and tell me what you think,.......... if I had found the coins where of any value I would have returned them, but they are worthless in fact probably the postage was the dearest thing

Just my opinion, But I think I would feel the same way the original poster felt. Here they paid about 4 GBP for a handful of coins and they got 1/2 a handful. The seller wants them to pay an additional 2 GBP postage to send them back because he messed up. And hope that he turns around and sends the others back. He really should have offered a partial refund for the mix up, or he should have sent out 8 of the "less valuable coins" from the "correct lot". As a side note. I once bought a lot of Mercury dimes w/ 1 bonus Franklin half dollar. When my package arrived it was 2 dimes and a Franklin Short. I emailed the seller and he sent me the 2 dimes and the Franklin, plus a bonus Franklin for my trouble. Now that was a class act seller.

What do I think? Quote: All I want is the 20 coins I paid for Yet you refused to send him back the coins he sent, so he could send you the ones you bought. Furthermore, you Negged him without allowing him a chance to make good on the deal. What do I think? I think ebay, if they have any sense of fair play, should remove your Feedback. I think you just joined my Blocked Bidder's list. That's what I think.

Also there was no description of items just 20 roman coins ? , no possible values no individuals photo of each coin .......... now him telling me they are the wrong coins it cannot be proved, and his attitude towards me was uncalled for.

I do agree that Pauline should not be held responsible for the extra costs of return shipping as that would be unfair since it was not her that made the mistake. I guess if both lots of coins are basically "worthless" then it shouldn't be a big deal for him to send out an additional 8 coins to make up the difference of the missing coins and obviously he is going to not want to pay the shipping either and end up with no profit on the sale. It sounds like a simple mistake to me since it would be totally insane to chance ruining his ebay feedback and possibly lose many future sales, just to score a couple of dollars. Thankfully for you Paulin,e it was a small amount of money to lose instead of a large amount and at least you did not end up empty handed. I realize of course, that is not the point and that you want what you paid for as we all would. Maybe he will still come around to see your side of things and will resend out the remaining coins from your lot.

Superdave, what have I done wrong here, the seller is in the wrong, he did not send what I paid for, all I asked was for the 8 extra coins and he wants e to send the ones I have back to him, why should I do that and be out of pocket for postage. He is in the wrong here for not sending me the correct amount of coins and trying to get out of it by saying it was the wrong bag, that is not my problem it is his for not sending 20 coins.

Ps dave read our feedback on ebay, we are good ebayer and have had no problems with any coin dealers or members and for you to say you are adding us to your block bidders is a bit harsh

by, the way for anyone who didnt take the time to read all 100 of this sellers feedbacks (and no I am not taking sides just offering a little further info) there are 7 negatives left for him, 3 of which were from the same person saying the exact same thing, less than a minute apart each time. So not sure if that should be fairly counted as 3 negatives instead of just one.
Everyone makes mistakes and I have made some myself in selling AND buying and I agree in ways with all comments left so far
I would have returned the coins, possibly at his expense as would only be fair. I would have expected the mistake to be fixed. I wouldn't have left a negative without giving fair time and chance for him to correct himself
I will try to stay quiet after this to give others a chance to voice the opinions you asked for.
Just out of curiosity/confusion Pauline.... why are you replying in 2 different names? That's very hard to follow this early in the morning.

Quote:Ps dave read our feedback on ebay, we are good ebayer and have had no problems with any coin dealers or members and for you to say you are adding us to your block bidders is a bit harsh I *did* read your feedback, particularly the person you called an "IDIOT," (your caps, not mine), in a dispute over their failure to pay you, which dispute had already reached the Feedback level less than 4 days after the auction ended. You have received 4 Negative Feedbacks, and left 7 Negative Feedbacks, at least 4 of which were to sellers you never allowed to make good on your claim. Looked at another way, 2.5% of the Feedback you give is Negative. And you call me harsh, one who has never either left nor received a Negative in 10 years and 400 transactions on ebay? I'm sorry, I honestly do not wish to give you offense. Just look at this from my viewpoint as an ebay seller. I will not buy from a seller with 97.5% Feedback. Do you think I'd sell to a buyer with the same record?

I am not siding on anyone here. But I think the problem is communication. First, Is it really a better bag? From the picture in ebay the coins are all very poor as in junk, as what the seller said NO DETAILS, so better coins can be rightaway determined. even 1 coin at least with an emperor, I think will be enough for L1.70 that was spent. If I were the seller and I made a mistake then I would send him the 8 coins that are very poor. No question asked. It would be cheaper to send 8 coins than sending him another bag of 20 coins. If I were the buyer, and if it was a better bag then I will just be happy with it, but if not of cource, I would not like to spend another mailing of 12 coins, because someone made a mistake. But this has to be talked between the buyer and the seller before a negative feedback is given. (don't be trigger happy) I think the only way to know this case is to see the coins sent. IF you can scan or picture the coins clearly then, we can tell who is right before judging somebody. If the coins are really better than the ones in the picture then the buyer is guilty, but if the picture of the coins are really what was advertised then the seller is guilty.
