So looking for a little help if anyone can assist on this... I have this 1951 Franklin half dollar and it does show some signs of doubling on the back definitely but what has me most curious is what's going on with the mint mark? Keep in mind I don't know much when it comes to this but it doesn't look like it would be PMD but maybe it is...a anyone have an idea?

It looks like an S mintmark and I believe that is a circulation hit that flattened the upper portion.

I agree with @spru, that this seems like circulation wear and tear--here is a close-up pic oriented so you don't need to tip your head:

I would say circulation flatness . The whole reverse is pretty worn .

Pretty much a melt item now. Damage moves them out of the collectable phase. Cash it in for silver melt.

It's taken a circulation hit, so it is post mint damage ( PMD), no matter how you slice it or dice it.
