any suggestions on confirming whether or not I have the '82 D penny error. I don't have a scale till the morning but it does have an almost higher pitched sound than others. *** Edited by Staff to Add Year / Mintmark / Denomination to Title. Titles are Important! ***

Assuming you are talking about the extremely rare, small date copper 82-D, first determine if it is a small or large date. These are easily identified, post a picture of the obverse of the coin.

My apologies then. Hard to tell sometimes through text. I was thinking it was a small date if the 8 was even but I guess I got em switched.

Yes, that's a large date D, with evidence of having served its time in our nation's monetary system.

when you said your coin has a different pitched sound, are you dropping it or banging it on something? if so why would you want to damage your coin? A different sound of a coin does not mean anything.

I was dropping onto a counter top and I figured with it being so circulated, that dropping it wouldn't damage too much more
