Happy 4th of July everyone, hope you have a great one. I have an interesting 1989 P zinc cent for your enjoyment. This got my attention as a MAD, but as usual there is more to the story. There is a deep channel close to the left rim of the obverse side which I believe was caused by the strike as a misaligned die(or some type of a planchet error or collar problem). The script Liberty shows the 'L' being smeared into the rim side as well as the portion of IN GOD of the motto. Additionally the IN shows three small marks on the rim. By flipping the coin, the channel shows on the reverse next to the rim as well. I believe this year of 1989 is a single squeeze strike. Unless this is some type of Die Deterioration, it leaves one pondering exactly what happened to this coin. So I am dying for your thoughts and again TIA.

That is called Ridge Ring. It happens on the die as it ages. Fair common on many years of Zincolns.
