I just received my copy in the mail. It's the first mega red I've bought. What a book! There is so much information and photos in here. There is an 85 page write up on the history of coins in the US. A very informative book that I recommend to any US coin collector. The 7th edition focuses on dollar coins, which mean there are details in regards to these.

Mine is supposed to be delivered on Monday. I really love them - I've got the full set. They fill up a book shelf fairly quickly, however! I keep the latest edition on my desk so it's handy, but refer back to the older books regularly for their in-depth sections on the different denominations.

Be careful having so much weight together. They might combine into a black hole ;)

Did the 6th edition ever make it to Ollie's? I like to buy them for $8 there a year later.

I can't believe we're already on the 7th edition! Seems like only a couple years ago that I purchased the 1st edition. I haven't purchased any since.

Quote: Be careful having so much weight together. They might combine into a black hole ;) The big downside to collecting books, especially numismatic reference book in hardbound in my case, weight, weight and so many board feet of space. I never have enough, and moving them around is a pain in my back! That said I still haven't bought a Mega Red edition. Closet I got was the large spiral bound in large print edition, (not that I needed it mind you) but it's just easier to have open next to me at the stereoscope and switching from reading to looking back and forth for hours sometimes. Currently I have somewhere around 30+ banker file boxes full of books at my storage unit that I rotate in and out with other books as needed. I have no room for my large semi-complete collections or auction catalogs from Heritage, Superior, Bowers & Ruddy, Bowers & Merena, American Numismatic Rarities, Stack's/Bowers, Stack's, Goldman's, etc. Also my complete collection of Numismatic Scrapbooks (That alone is mostly monthly from 1935 to 1976). I finally got rid of my ANA Numismatist that I had since joining in 1980. I use them digitally only. If I could I'd collect all of these Mega Red books too, they're really nice. I sold off my Red Book collection as well as my CDN (greysheet/bluesheet) just too much space for those and they really lend themselves to be in a digital searchable format, rather than a physical copy. These new Mega Red books are great with the focused attention on certain series each year. Though much of it is really duplicated in the Whitman Guidebooks of each series of the same.

Quote: I am still thinking about my first. Does this edition's focus on dollars have a nice section for Ikes? If so, this might be the year to get. @jbuck - FYI, they have about 18 pages of general discussion on the development and history of the Ike dollar, then another 19 pages where they discuss the specifics of each Ike dollar by date, mint mark and variety. It looks very informative to me, but then again I'm not an Ike expert...

Quote:How about the Peace dollars? Any details on those? @hfjacinto - they've got about 11 pages on the history and development of the Peace dollar, then roughly 21 pages where they talk about the specifics of each date, mint mark, and main varieties. As with the Ikes, it looks fairly informative, but maybe not so much for someone already very knowledgeable on the Peace dollar series...

Fantastic! I will need to get this edition then. Quote: JBuck do you have the IKE book on varieties from "The IKE Group"? Nope. I have thought about it several times, but I am not ready to jump into the deep end of the Ike V/E pool just yet. I know if I got that book it would put me there and I still want to fill six little holes on my Dansco albums first (well, one is not so little; Seated dollar with motto). I already pushed that goal out a year or two when I did the PCGS Ike set.

I don't even collect Ike dollars right now, but saw the big spiral bound book pop up on ebay at one of the "too good to believe prices", it was in a lot with other books I think I paid like $8.00 for it, can't turn down a large hard to find reference book for less than a tenner. Since I've been on my Colonial coin kick, I don't think there are many books under $65 anymore, many are double that or even more - way more for a few used ones I'm searching for currently.

I think I will have to get this one (7th ed.).
Does anyone have a breakdown of all the special sections for the 1st 6 editions? I know the innaugural one was on copper cents and 1/2 cents.
