I have separate containers for 1972 , 1969, 1992, 1955's and about every year and mint there is.. what is a organised way to actually go through all these coins and identify them? Any references are any guides that would be helpful?

Well I store the same years in tubes. That saves more space. Look up each year for variety coins, so you will have a guide as to what to look for on these, for that year/mint.

The most logical way, IMO, is to buy a RedBook and pick one year, then begin by looking at the coin and comparing it to the one listed in the book. PCGS, NGC and other coin grading guides can be helpful.

I'm a huge fan of varietyvista, but the others noted by @john1 are also very good. I hope that we seem some of your finds on future threads!

Use the Red Book to identify what they should look like, then the reference sites already mentioned for anything unusual looking. Realise, not every coin is an error coin. Error coins are rare and not common. Keep this is mind and you'll do well.

Red Book does not contain many varieties and errors. Only the really popular ones.
