Guessing this might be long-ago damage from a mechanical vending machine.

Possible bezel? Not sure. But an Encased Cent would flatten the rims. That is not the case on this cent.Note a dryer either as the rims are not rolled closer to the devices. But the coin was damaged somehow.

Coop, I cannot even find this one on erroref. Yep, definitely not a Dryer Coin nor is it formerly encased. Stumped on this one and I do not believe this is PSD either.

I think Die Deterioration is a factor in this--may not be THE chief culprit, but there is some evidence.

what is the weight of the coin? The obverse looks sunken in and you can see the bust profile quite good on the reverse. I wonder if it was an under weight planchet.

Or is it the beginnings of a possible capped die?

As Dearborn asked about the weight of this coin, I too would like to know what it weighs. Based on your pics, my first take was that this Linc. is heavier than normal. I may be totally wrong but I would like to see a weight on this one.

@Coop you sure the rims aren't rolled closer to the devices? the rim seems to be touching the L in Liberty :/

The weight of the coin is 3.07 grams. John1, my first thought was Ridge Ring but we normally only see that on zincolns.

So the coin is light, but not by that much.

It looks to me, in the two dimensions on offer, that the obverse die was not parallel to the reverse when the coin was struck. If so, the caliper of the blank field from the 4 o'clock to 5 o'clock region should show a discernible discrepancy from the 10 to 11 o'clock region.

John1, we both know it isn't a Ridge Ring and I am definitely on your side on die attrition.
