Hello! Can someone help with my coin? It appears everything looks good from what I see online however its missing the dots between D and B. I took it to a coin shop today and it confused him so I dont know how to verify it. My stepfather had it in his collection so I am baffled. Here are some pics of the mint marks and VDB on ebay:

Thank you!

Look at this on ebay

We'll need to see photos (obverse, reverse, and a close-up of the VDB) of your coin to be able to assist you.

Personally, I would never buy this date unslabbed unless I considered myself an expert on Lincolns, especially at this price. No upside, lots of downside.

The mintmark to me doesn't look correct. There 4 locations for the mintmark on the 'S' V.D.B.

Without the dots, I question the coin being real.

To get a good price this should be graded this is one of the counterfeited coins:

Could be a little grease in the die caused those two periods to not strike up, but with such a high demand coin I agree best pathway is to send it to a TPG. If you do this, please let us know what they think so that we can learn. Thx.

Bit confused here. You found this in your stepfather's collection, so why are you showing us an ebay link?

First thought is the same as coop's, questionable authenticity. Mintmark also does not look correct to me. Does look like it lines up with the tails of the 9's as it does in Die #2, but is shifted to far right.

I'd either send this off to a TPG for authentication, or take it to a different LCS, one that knows their wheaties, for a second opinion.

I misunderstood. The ebay coin is yours. I thought you were linking to another example. Why would you want to sell without having it graded and verified by a TPG?

Did you take the link to the coinshop or the coin? Are you the ebay seller?

Sorry Coinfrog. The pictures are too big so I linked the ebay pictures. I took this right out of a Lincoln cents collection book from the 40s or 50s. He collected coins and when he passed he left us with all kinds of them. I guess I will send this in for grading and authentication because he would not have a fake and if someone stamped the VDB why only one dot if it is a fake. The S looks like mint mark 3. I will try and get better pics but I appreciate everyones help. Obviously I dont want to sell a fake coin hence the ebay posting.

To me, this is a fake - clearly does not match any of the 4 known MM positions. Curious how often these show up in grandpa's (or stepfather's) collections.

With respect, I'm going to report it.

No need to report it. I will take it down until I get it verified. I will let you guys know what I find out! I appreciate everyones input and hopefully this will prove to be authentic and pretty rare given the missing two dots.

Looking forward to hearing what you find out. Please keep us posted. I hope it's genuine, but many careless collectors have been fooled by counterfeits.
