I wouldn't ordinarily post something as minor as this RPM, which I always thought was just a tiny flicky-do at the top and bottom of the curve of the D. But I just found a couple late die stage (VarietyVista stage C) examples in a roll, and when you get the lighting right there's a lot more of the secondary D visible than I previously thought. Still pretty soft, but certainly a much more interesting RPM in the LDS.

Yes it looks like having the light source hit the coin surface obliquely brings out the RPM quite nicely. Is that what you did, or am I misinterpreting the shadows?

Yes, with the straight light from the scope you couldn't see the majority of the secondary mint mark. I could see it with my loupe, though, so with the scope I lowered the light angle and put on a strong white filter to show the surface texture better and the D showed up fairly well.

Nice. Make sure to take care of that spot under the 9.

The die scratch on the 'A' on STATES is a match. (Stage B)

I seeing a similar die scratch off the "N" in Cent. Is that not a marker? Don't doubt it at all, just curious, and great find TB.

That secondary MM is nice when the lighting is just right. Congrats.

I called this stage-C but Coop is going with stage-B so I went back and pulled it. Lots moving through here right now so it wasn't exactly on the top of the pile. Since I posted that coin, these are the ones I've put in slips (and that's a different 1941 DDO-003 than the one I posted).

Anyway, I stand by my stage-C as the die scratch by the N is only visible as a mere idea of a scratch, the scratch by the A is visible into LDS so not key here, and on this coin the die crack system noted in stage-C is very well developed showing the whole network of cracks.
