Pics of 2012 hawaii State Quarter found in hand-rolled coin roll. Maybe this was stuck in polishing cones? What do you say- is there any value? Thank you.

Coin weight same as other states quarters 5.7g although much thinner than regular. Looks like outside metal has been pushed/moved/distributed inward- outside dimension basically matches regular quarter with some irregularities.

It just looks heavily damaged to me. I can't imagine there being any premium for this coin.

I can't imagine how the design lines were moved out of place?

@sing, first welcome to CCF. Second, the rim bruises are one indication of heavy damage. This coin may have been pinched in between some machinery. However it was done, we know that it wasn't part of the striking process.

Yes, heavy post strike damage. Metal used in planchets is relatively soft, and can be 'moved' horizontally depending on the direction of the force applied to the coin.

Just PMD, but what I am curious about is why you called it "stuck in polishing cones." I have never heard of any such error and have never even heard of polishing cones being a tool used in the minting process.

I am curious as well. It might be something we call by a different name, so don't be afraid to elaborate. This community is here to help, learn and educate.

Consider the number of posts? Terms are often descriptive, not always correct.

The phrase "stuck in polishing cones" is something I read somewhere. Thanks for the Glossary link.
