There was another similar post a few weeks ago. The op said he was going to submit them. I wonder if they ever did? And coop might be right.

Thanks coop and Willburton. What kind of staining would this be? Grease or something else. All the areas in question have striations lines only in the burnt looking parts

If they were from an original roll, they are probably stained metal. If they are from circulation, someone could have altered them. Try checking new rolls of All new coins. That will tell if if this is normal or something special. But in original rolls you still have bad ones in them. It is the better ones to save. The rest, then them do the work they were created for. Making change and working in vending machines. The mint is just into it, to make money. (pun intended)

If these had circulated at all then I think it would most likely just be surface staining.

Thanks Spence. I'm still uncertain about what kind of staining would be created at the mint. There were some that had grease on them but those could be wiped off. These I couldn't remove anything and the ones with grease didn't have the striations

Those crescent shapes on the coins lead me to believe something like that has occurred. They seem to have the same arch as a quarter.

Thanks Willburton. I'm going to have some of the more extreme ones graded. I was tossing them back until I noticed some were severely cooked and I liked the look of them

I found around 11 very similar to these a few months ago in a brand new box of uncirculated coins and posted the photos on the forums. I did send a couple off to be graded. They are currently showing a status of Grading/Quality control. Hopefully I get them back in a few weeks. I will post the results as soon as they are back.
