Nice looking coin I picked for $8 recently. Because this is a chain strike and not a clipped planchet, the weight is normal. I like the look of these chain strike edges. I'm wondering if the little dent at 10 o'clock is a part of a second strike. What do you think?

Weight 3.07g

Nice looking example.

I've never heard the term 'chain strike' ... always called these 'off center'. Where did you get that term?

From a previous post by @mikediamond about a similar chain strike coin:

Quote:
The flat edge is not a clip. It is where the expanding perimeter of the coin contacted the protruding portion of an off-center coin pinned by the adjacent die pair.

As to the question about a second strike, I think you might be right, but eagerly await the opinions of folks who know more about these things than I do.

Thanks for the comments CCF! Mike also let me know this is definitely not a double struck coin and that while the very small rim feature at 10 o'clock could be pre-strike contact damage, there is no way to say for sure.
