Spence Moderator United States 34428 Posts	Posted 09/27/2021 8:29 pm I really struggle with these because in my mind, this could easily just be a light scratch (i.e. damage). It starts up on the rim right below the letter L and then meanders around a bit. Toward the bottom, it seems to stutter before stopping. Is it because this came directly from the mint that you folks are convinced that this is struck through thread? Not trying to be argumentative with this post--just pushing back a little to try to learn. Thx for helping me with that. coop Bedrock of the Community United States 62064 Posts	Posted 09/29/2021 2:03 pm Struck through wire and thread had the same look different than just damage. Damage often doesn't have an abrupt stopping point. Thread/fiber: Thread tends to have more movement and even knotted sometimes. Note all the affected areas are incuse with out a rise on each side of the fields. String: wire: Damage to a coin that creates an incuse mark on them moves the fields around the victims altered area: So if something is struck into a coin at the time of the strike the fields will be flat around the struck through item: On the coins, the weight will be normal. But the metal is moved around to use all of the metal during the strike. Report this Post to the Staff
