Someone is selling this locally and I was wondering if you think it's real or fake? You realize when you know how to think, it empowers you far beyond those who know only what to think.

The coin is an 1895-S, rather than 1893-S. I have doubts about this one. The first thing I noticed was the position of the wheat leaf and wheat kernels relative to the "R" and "I" of PLURIBUS. The leaf should have an obvious gap below the lower left leg of the "R" and the two kernels should have gaps between the kernels and the lower serifs of the "I" of PLURIBUS, with a greater gap from the lower left serif. This coin has the design elements touching the "R" and "I" of PLURIBUS. EDIT: For comparison, here is a genuine G-04 example from the PCGS website:

What VAM is it? It doesn't have the markers for VAMS 1A, 2, 3, 4, or 5. That would only leave VAMs 1 or 1B, and the mm position is too high for any of the five VAMs.

Seller is asking $150, I might take the chance on it.

That's a great price. If you are looking for a flip, then it'll be a hard sell locally because it is pretty much cull. But it could do well on ebay. Similar coins sold for $200-$250 on ebay. If it's a keeper, then nice filler! Before I would buy it, I would weigh it and inspect it with a loupe. If it looks like a Morgan dollar, feels like a Morgan dollar, sounds like a Morgan dollar, there is a good chance it is a Morgan dollar. If it turns out it is counterfeit, then heck the counterfeiter did a pretty darn good job making this look the way it is. If it were me, I would buy this for $150. Maybe even negotiate a little

I checked it out like fortcollins. I think the ops pic is too grainy/out of focus to make a good call. Need better pics. I did as fortcollins did, focused on the one spot. I'll post ops pic cropped, then one of mine. I question his coin based on the pic he showed, I would not make a call from this pic. Could be NumismaticsFTW's coin is just well worn/dirty. His Mine:

Here's an example of that "Pluribus" area on an 1895-S from my personal collection.
