If genuine, I'll say EF-45. Just curious - with all your money, why do you mess around with small stuff like this when you could be forming a world-class collection?

I love this coin as much as many others. This coin has a lot of associated history. It just happens to have been produced in larger numbers. The big ticket items are fun, but are also a p.i.t.a. in many ways. As far as having a world class collection, I don't compete in areas where I don't have a shot to win. There are a lot of people in the world with a lot of money. I don't derive my happiness from following a set of rules someone else writes. My happiness comes from a set of rules that I make up for myself and that fits me. I buy what I like and that makes me happy.

The coin looks genuine. A little luster showing with wear on the high points. AU53 Once I saw you buying the high dollar coins, I realized you had fun buying raw coins on ebay with bad photos.

Buying on ebay is a learning experience in a lot of ways. It will be a sad day when everything is slabbed and raw coins worth buying disappear.

You paid an everyday price for an everyday item, like you often do. In fact, honestly speaking, I think you often overpay for everyday items. Cannot understand the appeal of this sort of "learning experience" for someone who can afford a MS 1796 quarter.

Having been here for a few years in your company, I think it goes without saying that you have difficulty understanding that other people want other things rather than what you want.

It's rare to meet a fellow collector with such opposing views. I wish you the best in your odyssey, and will follow your everyday purchases with curiosity, looking forward to your next major foray into the big leagues.

I keep coming here to learn things and I've always said that you've been a big part of that Coinfrog. We may not always agree but I often walk away thinking that there are other ways of thinking about things.

Ed, The mint marks and dates were put in by hand for each die on Trade dollars. The position of the date and mint mark changed on each die and there are at least 4 different die sets with the large S for the date. On the 77s there were two sizes of mint marks a large and mini. If you scroll down 9 coins on your PCGS attachment you will see a mint mark in the same position as the OP coin. The wing to the ribbon spacing also appears correct as there is spot below the ribbon on the OP coin that makes it appear as touching.

I like Trade dollars and this one is a higher grade than mine but it doesn't have much visual appeal to me. The price seems fair, but I would pass.
