I have had this 1963 penny for years. The photo makes it look more copper but it is definitely has more of a silver look to it. Does anyone know what it could be?

Hard to tell from the photos, but it almost has the appearance of having been plated by an amateur in the distant past. I'm looking especially at the IGWT area, which has different coloration. What does the reverse look like?

An old plating that is wearing off is a good guess.

@bfa, first welcome to CCF. Second, I agree with @half that this cent likely was plated after it left the mint. Depending on what metal was used, this coin may now be weakly attracted to a magnet.

I found one in the original cello that had toned the color like you coin. It is were a proof, it was in the cello for many years, that maybe what happened to your coin as well:

OP's coin may have had a thin mercury rubbing over it many years ago.
Over a long time it slowly reverts to original, but never completely so.
