1990 S Jefferson Nickel PCGS PR-69 DCAM Speared Date?

Kevboe11 Valued Member United States 73 Posts	Posted 10/27/2021 1:24 pm Hi all. I recently got this coin back to me and noticed the very visible, straight die gouge directly through the date. Its actually under the "19". I was inspecting for a possible DDO variety when I noticed it. This should have never made itnout of the mint, its a proof coin. And obviously missed by PCGS. The coin price guide listed on PCGS for this Jefferson is only $15 bucks but previous auction results are well less. Nowhere near the cost of having slabbed IMHO much less resubmitting. It probably is just that, a small gouge, not a mint error. TPG don't typically list anything on the slab unless you request it on your submission paperwork or they notice something so out of the ordinary they take it upon themselves to notate it and may contact you. Grading companies grade coins - that's it - unless asked/paid to do otherwise. These businesses make a lot of money from the aforementioned and mistaken mindset.
