The bad shape 1980 half is thicker than most halfs and appears to have no reeding. Is this a collectors item or just a disfigured coin?

Some may say a Dryer Coin or maybe spent most of its life as a casino (slot machine) coin. IMO

Well for sure it had a reeded edge when it left the mint.

It can't be minted without reeding if it was struck in collar.
It has been worn down outside of the mint.

Judging from the obverse, I'd say the casino theory is a good bet.

It's a classic Dryer Coin look to me, though the casino theory is very plausible as well.

Post strike damaged coin. It wasn't struck like that. Altered by what the coin experienced. Just a face value coin.
