This post is probably not what you think it was going to be. I have been buying products from the mint for 50+ years. In that time I have seen all kinds of complaints about the mint ranging from gouges, grease smears, die cracks, etc. When I receive something new from the mint I inspect it pretty closely with a loupe. Never once have I found any imperfections. Am I an outlier? I almost wish I could find a flaw so I could join the ranks of the dissatisfied. Anyone else share my experience? I realize that those who have a problem are more apt to post than those who "got what they wanted." I think the mint deserves some credit. Now when it comes to the ordering process of popular items, that's another story.

Of all the items I ordered and received from the mint none had what I would call an error, there have been 3 coins that had tiny marks when I looked for them. I will state that some of the older mint products aren't aging well (especially the 1969 and 1987proof set I own). Especially the 1969 in which the cent got a black spot. The Morgan and Peace dollars actually had the most marks of all my orders, 2 out of 14 had a tiny contact mark. I think the quality of the mint is good but let's not start a post on Mint prices, that I have an issue with lately.

I'm right there with you. I've ordered a few items from the mint and have never had a problem. It's been a while now and everything I have is aging well.

I don't acquire much direct from the mint, but when I have, there haven't been any quality issues. I don't judge mint quality when I pick up an early '70s uncirculated set at a coin show--understanding that the set has likely changed hands several times over the years, and has the rubs and minor dings to show for all that handling.

I too am a person that has never had a problem with the Mint.

I would consider myself gruntled with the products and disgruntled with recent order process. Also, the new packaging and shipping leave much to be desired, and pricing seems skewed on some items But, always happy with the products that I've received.

If you are a mint customer from the last 50 + years then you must know about the poor quality of many Mint sets from the 70's and 80's . I know I do .

I buy US Mint rolls of the American Innovation Series so I can obtain nice coins for my collection. I then put the rest into 2x2's and offer them on ebay for enough to just cover the Mint mark-up, ebay fees and postage. I have found that the Philadelphia mint is the worst for marks on the coins, some have been so bad I couldn't in all good faith even sell them. I've spent them, so there are a few recent American Innovation Dollars out there in the wild. The Denver mint is better in the way they handle their coins. I found this to be true of the 2021 Peace and Morgan dollars. Philly has more tiny imperfections than Denver or San Francisco, at least for the ones I received. One of my 2021 P Morgan's even has a strike through or a planchet flaw. I can't comment on the two privy Morgan's since they are still in limbo between the Mint and USPS plus I'm not sure which mint actually struck them. I haven't had any problems with any Proof Sets or Mint Sets and I have been getting them for years.

Quality has definitely been an issue in 2020/2021. Many proof sets or AI proof dollars returned with hazing or scratches. And most anyone who purchased a quantity (10 or more) of assorted Morgan/Peace dollars had issues with at least one (scratches/gouges).

I have been happy with direct purchases from the U.S. Mint for decades. However, I think of their product as not just direct purchases but also the production of coins for circulation. I know "quality" can be subjective. On one hand, each mint has produced beautiful coins. On the other, the Lincoln Cent after the change to Zincoids, is truly sad. I received multiple scratches/spots/stains on some of this years Morgan/Peace dollars. I also pulled out some ASEs from the mid-90s as high grades of some of these years have increased quite a bit. Unhappy to find milky haze across the coins. I know this is a risk we all take as collectors. I would hope that our mint would seek to continually improve their processes and the quality of our coinage.

, myself has not had any issues with the mint (until now) with the shipping dept. They dropped the ball and forgot to send my CC and O Morgan dollars. I finally have some light at the end of this tunnel, the Mint did step up and recognize their own issue and fixed it all without me having to call them to bring it to their attention.
