This one was only AU, so was able to get it for a good price. One of these days I'll have to save up enough to buy one on a silver planchet, but not super high on my hit list right now.

That's great. Can you share with us the approximate value of something like this?

It would probably get listed at something like $300 "make an offer" and sell for a bit less. I just got it so haven't really researched the date that hard, but if it turns out to be a tough date for these then price is a little higher.

Awesome pick-up TB! Off metal errors are one off my favorites. How do you research the rarity by year? I bought a 1981 P 25c on a 5c planchet awhile back and would be curious to research this myself.

Thanks all! CoinHI, generally you look at sold and active actions. ebay, Heritage, Great Collections, Stacks, etc. These are errors that get listed at auction often enough, and with enough data points you can see which years are more common, and on the other hand, which years have never come up. It takes some time and I'll not be looking into this one for a while yet as too much else to do.
Mrwhatisit, Well, someone found it in circulation or roll hunting, as it is AU and got out for at least a little trip into the wild. Things are out there.
Jim, this may or may not stay in my collection. There is a stunning 1966 MS-66 in there, and was thinking this would make some killer trade material as highly desirable and most folks don't have one. For example, John1 has a coin I would trade this to him for.
