I am new to this. My mother collected and labeled many error coins. This is two of many. Can you help me with the correct labeling of this? I want to sell it and not sure of the proper terminology.
Thank you ...

Decent photos in my opinion! Now the 1980-D is either a strike-thru error, or a big patch of post-mint damage, but leaning more to PMD. The 1965 quarter is definitely a PMD event where the rim took a big hit and has seen some good circulation. Others will chime in more likely on the 1980 one.

I don't see an error on either coin. They both look like damage.
The ear on the 1980 looks like it has been scraped with the metal
accumulating on the side and the 1965 has taken a hit flattening the rim.

Just damaged coins. Not a mint error.

I agree that neither is a mint error. Both quarters would be spenders for me.

Thank you. Did you see the "B" in Liberty? Missing part of letter which makes me think error? ear really looks error. unfortunately I have no experience. Thank you for honesty.

The B in Liberty has just taken a hit damaging it .
An error can only occur during the actual striking of the coin.
Anything that happens after that is damage.

Looks like somebody took a Dremel tool to the ear on the 1980, and a hit hit on the 1965 causing that big dent on it. All of it is post mint damage.

But please, only ONE coin per topic. It is far easier to keep the comments on the coins separate.
