I found this coin and it appears genuine BUT it has a lot of problems in my opinion. Yes, it has a low open bid but there are many more attractive examples out there and coming down the road.
Don't just get the coin to have one.
Most of us would probably consider this one of the showcase coins in our commemorative or type coin collections. You don't want it to stick out like a sore thumb. You probably would rather have it pop out as an eye catcher.
There are rim issues, some odd gouge over the conjoined heads into STATES. Tooling scratches under the horse or some type of odd distracting scratches.
A couple green spots could be PVC damage and this looks cleaned.
Add a hundred bucks or more to your budget and get one you won't regret. Be patient, you'll be happy you were later on.

I hope I helped. I'm not quick to knock somebody else's coin but this is my experience in collecting.

That's definitely not an attractive coin. Good advice from TNG.

Keep hunting, russell and

I agree with the comments above. The coin shows clear damage/issues. There's no need to rush - there are problem-free, circulated examples to be had. Remember, coins don't heal. The problems you see today will always be present, but they will likely become more of a focal point for you over time.

@muddler: Nice toned example!

Here is a pair from my collection; both have nice cartwheel luster when viewed "live."

@OP ... please be mindful to include denominations/date/etc identifying the topic in your thread title. 'Is this Real' does not convey any information on the subject being discussed.

I agree with the consensus - this is a damaged and not attractive coin. Based on the two prospectus coins you've shown so far its apparet tat you are seeking a circulated grade example.

As I suggested in my response to your other option, there are plenty of problem free and attractive circulated Lafayette dollars out there. Your patience will be rewarded if you wait for such an example.
