Wigging out. I was going through some half dollar rolls and I out aside every 71 and 77 I found just to weigh them. I know the 71 D and 77 D have been found but I've never seen a P before! Here are two photos showing 2 of the 77's I found. One weighing within the silver planchet range! It's not the prettiest but I just want to know if you guys think I should get it graded?

Did you factor in mint tolerance for weight? Also,do the tissue test. A good close up of the coin might also help.

I wouldn't get too excited just yet, that weight is well within tolerance for a normal copper nickel clad coin.

Obverse has a plated look but I'm pulling for you. More diagnostics needed before submitting to a third-party grading service. Remember, plating material would add a small amount of weight.

The 'P' mintmark on most of the coins didn't start until 1980 on the half dollars. There were 'P' mintmarks on the Part silver war time nickels on the 1942-1945 nickels on the reverses:

But the rest of the denominations (except cents) had the 'P' mintmark going forward. On the 2017-P that is the only year that cents have a 'P' mintmark on them.

That was the only year the cents had a 'P' mintmark.
So your coin is not showing a 'P' mintmark on the 1977 half dollar that was struck at the mint.
