I would say it's a planchet flaw as it appears that there is an imprint visible over some parts the affected area.

I would agree that it is a strike through - something - not sure if it was grease or not

To me it looks like a struck through debris issue. Like greasy string and grease with grit/possible fiber like paper in it. The reverse looks normal. Looks like a struck through error.

I don't think it was Struck Through Grease. The elongated recess is too well-defined. It's some kind of "discrete" struck through error, although the nature of the foreign object is elusive.
