Those are some really, really rough hits by the neck and on the cheek. I would say it might be a technical 64 because it's relatively clean otherwise, but would expect a net grade of 62 or 63 from a TPG.

Some pretty serious gouges on the obverse, I'd say MS-61, possibly PL.

I'm leaning toward MS-62 PL. The scratch on the cheek may be superficial, but the dings near the second left star are trouble. The reverse is really nice.

I agree with MS-62PL at best. The appeal honestly escapes me.

I went through all my Morgan reference material and I can not find any information about a SF branch proof for a 1880 S. The coin does not have the rims of a typical proof, so what makes this a branch proof?

The listing was sold on ebay.

Anacs graded it PF 63, PL

Apparently it is the only known branch mint proof for 1880 s.

I would post the link but I don't know if I am able to.

I found the ebay listing.

This has the characteristics of a business strike. This looks nothing like a proof in my opinion. This is probably a mistake on the label, but the price doesn't say so. The label says a proof grade, and also says PL.

The seller starts his personal ebay description with "I am 14 years old."

Ouch, the two heavy obverse hits certainly hurt this one. MS61 PL as well, but could see 62.

Seller sounds familiar. I feel like they were the topic of a hot debate, either on here or another forum at one point.

Why would a PF63 be given a PL designation?

i would put this in the 61PL or 62PL bucket. I dont like it. I think the coin should have detailed with those hits

When I go into the ANACS certification look up, the 1880 S PF63 does show the coin. ANACS population data base does not acknowledge a Morgan 1880 S PF63, so there is a strong chance that it could be a label error. You may want to call ANACS about the coin as that is a lot of money to pay for a label error.

Slider I dont think he said it was proof.
Alot of us are saying it looks proof like from the pictures.
