Looks like a '78 D to me. The rim is folded over such as when it is trapped in rotating mavhinery. Maybe a Dryer Coin?

If the outside edge is not flat, then I'm thinking this coin was hit on the edge with a spoon. Note how they are rounded over on top of the devices. it was not struck like that. It is a PSD coin.

Looks like a 1976D to me with a circulation rim issue. May have been slight misaligned die to begin with but I don't think it has ant numismatic or error value. Sorry.

Possibly an early stage Dryer Coin.
Put it on top of another nickel and see if the diameter is smaller.
This would indicate that it was done after the coin was struck.

I enlarged it. Looks like 78D maybe went to the dryer after a closer look.

Looking at it under microscope it seems it struck most of the obverse partially on the rim

Early stage Dryer Coin works for me--the coin gets into the inner workings of a commercial laundromat dryer. Gets worked over pretty good before it's discovered when maintenance is being performed. Didn't happen by bouncing around in a home dryer drum (all that noise).

It's possible that whatever was striking it was on a slight angle.
Doesn't really matter though, damage is damage no matter how it was caused.

Then label it as PMD, because that is what it is. It is not a mint error.
