OK, so I bought this. Wife thinks I'm senile. How would you grade this coin (it's in a PCGS holder), and what would you pay for it? Edited by pristine2 12/05/2021 09:44 am

I'd say AU-58. It's an 1819/8, so maybe $1800?

It is an O-101 1819/8 small 9 with an R-1 rating, sharp strike, lots of luster, and great eye appeal. There is a bit of cabinet rub and a deeper scratch on the neck, but I think this is an AU-55.

MS61 to 63 won't surprise me either though it does appear to be closer to AU53/55 to my eyes, great luster still present on this one. Price? Could be all over if the holder doesn't show the correct overdate or a details grade? It's probably worth somewhere north of $2.5K I'd imagine. What you paid? Maybe $1400?

hmmm. AU58 or MS60. when you blow this up I'm not seeing the circulation wear but most of the fields are devoid of luster. I'm going with a conservative AU58

Nice coin. I was at AU-58. I think the scratch on the neck may have moved it back to a 55.
