A few days ago, I posted about the 1916 Barber dime graded MS-66 * by NCG I had just purchased. This was the second coin in my planned-for high grade Barber type set. Today, the set is complete. I went to the post office this morning to pick up the 1908-O Barber half dollar which has been graded MS-65+ by NGC and also sports a CAC "green bean" sticker. I pretty much emptied out my coin fund to buy this coin but it was worth it. A little background - I have loved Barber coins since I began collecting as a teenager. My father also collected Barbers, although as a parish pastor raising eight children, he didn't have much money for coins. I do remember him mail ordering low grade Barber dimes back in the 1960s and 1970s. The first photo is of the 1915-S Barber half dollar I purchased at my local coin shop in Eau Claire, Wisconsin back in 1971 or 1972 when I was a teenager. The quarter and dime in the photo are coins from my father's collection. The 1900-S quarter holder sports his handwriting. The 1902 Dime is still in the seller's holder from over a half century ago. I have held on to these because of their sentimental attachment to my father.  Here are the three coin in my new type set. The photos of the 1908-O half are the seller's wonderful shots. I am so happy to have this forum where I can share this story with other collectors.     Paul Bulgerin

Very nice! What does the reverse of the 1900-S 25c look like? Yours is obverse type 1. Reverse types 2 and 3 were both used in 1900, and obverse 1 over reverse 3 is quite scarce. For reverse 3 the wing tips extend beyond the letters.

Here's a shot of the reverse and also one of the holder so you can see that he noted he paid $3.50 for it. The MB in the bottom right are his initials.

Gorgeous coins, super eye appeal.  The high grade coins are dripping with luster, the lower grade coins have a very nice "circulation cameo". Congrats!
