These all came together, and were together when the person I bought them off got them. Likely originally from a mint bag. The coins were labeled 1-4, and I agree with the progression and am putting them up here in the same order as I see it as correct. Also, I have a die marker on the reverse of all four coins, so yes, they are verified as all from the same die.

I am not familiar with other progressions like this, but surely there must be some out there from lucky folks finding a bunch of them in a mint bag. But for now, hopefully the first image will help everyone see clearly the emerging details as the die cap deteriorates.

Bats, are these also on thin planchets?

Now that's an interesting question. I never checked as figured would just be regular old planchets across four coins. So now they are in 2x2 slips, but weighing each coin in the slip comes out to about 6.2g for each one. Weighing other memorial cents in slips mostly comes out around 6.4g. Moved on to other things right now, but I think I am going to have to pull at least one and get the weight accurately.

Finally pulled one out and weighed it. 3.10g so all good there.

Seeing them side by side helps us understand what is happening to the thickness of the capped die:

Thanks folks. Seemed worth the time to put that together as just much easier to understand the progression when seen in order in one image.

Great post and very educational TB. Great editing coop. Are you expanding into struck through die caps TB? Or had it always part of the museum?

Struck through die caps have always been one of my side collecting interests. I only have maybe 20 of them, but I will pick them up when something interesting comes along.

I haven't seen any like this and didn't think they progressed this fast. I figured a die cap lasted for at least 20 coins. Super cool find.
