The dirt on the coin makes it seem original and is almost certainly not worth trying to restore, which is sad, as the rest of this coin is a chromatically rich and lustrous beauty. Do you agree with PCGS?

Looks mint state, with some original red color. Early mint-state copper doesn't always show any luster but on this piece the luster looks very nice. The blotchy discoloration hurts eye appeal a little. I agree this coin probably won't benefit from conservation.
I'd guess MS-63RB.

MS63 BN, just misses RB IMO. I'd be concerned about how that reverse progresses through the years.

Thank you, Ty2020b. Do you think the PCGS holder will fail to protect it from further damage?

TPG's holders are not airtight. They definitely help, but depending on the current extent of the surface issues, and how the coin is stored in the future, further damage may or may not happen.
I usually steer clear of examples like this for that reason. Even kept in ideal conditions, you just never know. Just my 2 cents.

Tough call. I'll say 63RB, but I could see arguments for several grades here.

No wear on the usual high spots. Pretty much free of distracting contact marks. Ditto with the others on the reverse dark areas. Obverse looks RB but I think the reverse holds it down to BN. I hope it doesn't grade details ... MS63 me thinks.

MS62BN. Professional "conservation" may help or hinder. I wouldn't risk it personally, it may look worse than it did before.
The clashes and cracks are all clearly visible, making this an interesting study coin, at least to me.

MS62RB possibly BN. I think it will turn to a full brown over the next couple of years. Store it in a dark humidity controlled area, I use Tupperware and desiccant packs that I recharge often (living in North Texas it's humid) When I lived in Denver the humidity levels were much easier and more stable to deal with. 1833 is one of my favorite Half Cent years for some reason. I have a few but none as nice as this one.
