The finish on this coin caught my attention and then noticed the lettering doesn't fit but is cut off by the rim of the coin. Was wondering if this is a coin worth keeping or is it a common error? Not a collector and new to this site and looking for advice/input. Thanks.

It may be struck on the wrong planchet, but please do us both a favor and wait for the heavyweights to come in on this one lol

It looks like a Dryer Coin. If should be smaller in diameter and have a wider rim. The constant rolling in a clothes dryer is the cause.

to the CCF Please always show a clear photo of both sides of the coin when posting. Not an error but a Dryer Coin. Put it on top of a regular nickel and you will see that the diameter is smaller from the rims being pushed in. No extra value as this is considered damage.

I agree absolutely! A Dryer Coin, no foreign phanchet, no mint error, post mint damage.

If you are not familiar with Dryer Coin terminology, it is a PMD (post mint damage)
