Given the images posted, I'm thinking Grease Filled Die. It's possible that the coin was struck with a somewhat reduced striking pressure. Full, large and sharp photos will help us better understand what may be happening. Thanks.
I'm thinking this was a polished die issue to remove feeder fingers damage on the dies: If so then the fields will be real flat where it was removed off the reverse. Note the obverse is affected just like the OP's coin?
The OP's dime and Coop's dime show the effects of Die Deterioration, specifically "design-devouring die wear". There was no intentional die abrasion involved.
