It looks to me that the middle portion of reverse design, shield and tail feathers, fell off in a SE direction and was struck through. This coin weighs 11.12 g, slightly underweight which shows in some of the strike weaknesses between LIBERTY.

For me seem to be a tinny planchet. Is .11 gg less. Not an incredible error.

I think I'm in the Struck Through Grease camp on this one. If the planchet was defective where the O in dollars was I imagine the O would not be fully formed as it appears in the photos. It appears to go inside of the O and does not effect the O It self which I have seen on stuck through grease errors before, I don't know that much about planchet errors though.

Me too, I'm with Wrekkdd on this one. Could this also just be a rolled thin planchet, the overall strike looks a tiny bit weak to me.

11.12 grams is well within mint tolerances (+/- .45 grams), so I don't think that's an issue. The area north of O in Dollar looks like a Struck Through Grease for sure. I'm interested though in the lack of feathers on the eagle and the corresponding lack of definition in JFK's hair on the other side. Is there a connection? Also, there appears to be weakness at the rim on Half and Dollar that corresponds to weakness on the obverse rim between I & B and again between R & T. A tapered planchet might account for the weight issues and the weak rim devices, but not for the eagle feathers. Can we see a shot of the edge showing whether or not there's any taper?

It looks like a struck through grease/grit error, that was not all just in the devices, but on the fields of the die. It might have been an issue with a fiber material with grease that blocked the field area. A striking error. But probably not much of a premium for this. Just an interesting piece. On to save to share with an new collector.

I believe there are two separate errors here: 1. A very slightly tapered planchet but within Weight Tolerance. A minor error. 2. A dropped filling. A very cool and uncommon error, especially on a KHD.

It was certainly Struck Through Grease. However, the purported dropped filling is too indistinct to identify as an impression of grease that once filled the tail feathers. Furthermore, with the grease plug having fallen out and shifted position, the normal tail feathers should have struck up more clearly. But their details are as vague as the neighboring struck-through design and field.

I took some better photos of this coin to see if any more distinction could be made. I see what looks like the undulations of the tail feathers in grease filled area in the field SE of the eagle. Also, the length of the field struck grease impression, north to south, seems to match the length in the grease filled portion of the eagle. Could the die fill had split leaving part in the device and part in the field? Marks of what I see as the tail feather tips
