I know junk silver is junk silver, BUT I have a question. I don't really stack. I have a few American Silver Eagles and a few rolls of constitutional silver in dimes.

I over the years acquired coins that I wouldn't collect now (and won't collect in the future) and really want to limit my silver stack to just what I have. I early this year got rid of any duplicate peace and Morgan dollars (as the sell price was high) and got ASE, now I'm looking at the foreign silver coins and War Nickels. Considering I got all of this when silver was under $17, I would be ahead but I know I would lose as I have to sell at the sell rate and buy at the buy rate but it would fit in with what I already have. Thoughts?

No, but I do sell/trade numismatic coins in my collection to use towards buying more silver.

The only trade I've ever made is about 800 40% silver halves (found at face value), at the highs about ten years ago. Got a good price at the coin show, turned 'em into 90% halves.

I have never sold anything but it probably would be a good idea for me to get rid of coins I don't like.

I traded off all my collectible graded Morgan's for ASE's a few years ago. From memory I ended up with roughly 500 ounces so not a huge amount but I thought it worked out well. I had great collections handle the sale and source the ASE and he gave me a good deal with little mark up to spot which was about $13 or $14 then

I would have done the same. I am transitioning out of numismatics and switching to bullion. The problem I see with the collectible side is liquidity. It's a lot easier to find a buyer for a commodity like silver or gold bullion than it is a graded silver dollar or even raw semi-key or key silver coin. Eventually you will find a buyer, but if you need cash now then it may not be so easy. The collectibles I do have carry some sentimental value, but there are only a very few items that I am not willing to sell.

Exactly. A PCGS graded Morgan might "list" for $250 for that year/mint/grade but only if you find a buyer that wants it. ASE's and junk usually always have buyers

Very true. Even coin shops will tell you this when considering making an offer to buy your graded coin. They might have a customer that is looking for it or the coin may end up sitting on their shelf for days, weeks, months, or longer.

There is nothing wrong with collectibles and specifically graded coins, it's just not for me. At this point in my life, I don't have any desire to debate someone over the grade of a coin and then negotiate back and forth over the value. With bullion, you typically don't have to deal with any of that.

I collect both bullion and numismatic coins, but even my bullion is numismatic.

I don't trade.
I sell to get money to help buy coins I want.
